A Little about EMW
Established in 1993 as a nonprofit performing group, East Meets West Music Arts (EMW) presented its first major concert in 1994. Since its inception, EMW has been blessed with strong support from local communities, friends and many volunteers. The participation of EMW musicians is truly a labor of love. Dr. F. Yang who earned her Ph.D. in music composition from the University of Chicago is the founder, music director and conductor of this group. Over the past years, EMW has presented a variety of concerts, lectures and educational programs in the greater-Chicago area.
Mission: Bridging East and West through Music Arts
  • EMW strives to foster cross-cultural understanding - -
    •  by promoting and performing world music including music of the Silk Road,
    Chinese traditional music and other ethnic folk music, as well as newly created
    and arranged compositions for all voices and instruments, both western and non-western.
  • EMW hopes to make communities more loving and peaceful places - -
    • by presenting an appealing blend of musical forms and styles to its audiences;
    by enhancing appreciation of each other through different genres of music arts;
    by contributing its effort of bridging East and West through music arts.
